The 17th winner of the St Leger, held on Tuesday 25th September 1792 over the 2 miles of Town Moor, was Tartar, a chestnut colt by Florizel out of Ruth, owned by Lord Archibald Hamilton, trained and ridden by John Mangle at Ashgill, Middleham.
